Children receive additional intra school competitive opportunities at lunch times. £6,900
Employment of a professional dance teacher to deliver a lunchtime dance club and prepare children for competition/performances. The funding pays for a specialist dance teacher to come into school for special projects, working with children from across KS2 (including groups of More Able) to provide 45 minute dance lessons to prepare for competitions and performances as required. The children are much more confident in Dance & Movement skills and the lunchtime classes are popular and very well attended. The children have won prizes and commendations in Dance Festivals involving other schools and were invited to perform at the International Business Festival held in Liverpool. £1000
Lancashire CCC – Chance to Shine The funding pays for a specialist cricket coach (Tim McKiernan, Lancashire County Cricket Club) to come into school for 2 half terms to work with two different year groups developing cricket skills. This is part of the ‘Chance to Shine’ project. It is also enables the children to access Level 2 competitions run in conjunction with Lancashire CCC. We have also in the past had visits from two Youth International Cricketers from the West Indies which the children enjoyed and provided them with role models to aspire to. The children are taught how to throw and catch properly as well as the technical skills needed to strike a ball accurately. Last year the children who accessed the coaching took part in three tournaments and gave an excellent account of themselves in each one – the year 6 children qualified for the city finals. £650
Employment of a teaching assistant to assist with curriculum PE, competitions and lunchtime skills development This enables a member of staff with a particular interest in PE and sport to assist classes with curriculum PE, competition preparation and working with groups of children at lunchtime developing skills in a range of sports. The children benefit from an additional 45 minutes of coaching each lunchtime (KS2 on a rota).
