Philosophy for Children offers a way to open up children’s learning through enquiry and the exploration of ideas. Children learn that their ideas have value, and that the ideas of other children have value too. Through Philosophy for Children they realise that they don’t always have to be right, but they gain the confidence to ask questions and learn through discussion.

Year 4 have been very busy carrying out their P4C sessions. They have enjoyed discussing various topics. One P4C that created great discussion was all about ‘What makes us a nice person?’

We then looked at our stimulus, this created lots of discussion in class.
We had a great P4C session. We listened to what everyone had to say. We realised that people’s views and opinions were sometimes different to our own, but this didn’t matter as we are all different and therefore can sometimes think differently too.
To end the session we were asked to work together to create the most beautiful pattern we could. Take a look at what we came up with:
